Courtney Barich attended her prom wearing a burlap sack

by A Mighty Girl

18-year-old Mighty Girl Courtney Barich made good on her promise to attend her prom wearing a burlap sack -- and raised $10,000 for an orphanage in the Philippines in the process! The material for her dress cost Courtney only $40 and a generous designer, Suman Faulkner of Lata Design, volunteered her time and talent to transform the burlap into a stunning dress. Courtney's prom date even got involved and wore a burlap vest and bow tie to match.

It was a last minute epiphany several months ago that led the 12th grader from Surrey, British Columbia, Canada to pledge to wear a burlap sack to prom in the first place. Courtney attends Holy Cross High School, and went on a spring break trip to the Saint Martin de Porres Orphanage in Manila, Philippines. At the orphanage, which houses over 170 children, she witnessed children living in poverty and sleeping in garbage bags.

Around the same time, she and her mother were searching for a dress for her senior prom. She found the perfect dress at a local boutique, and its $700 price tag fit within her budget. But a day’s delay before she would be able to get the dress fitted gave her time to think: “That’s just crazy money to spend on a dress for one night. It’s just insane.”

In an interview with the Surrey Leader, Courtney explained how "as we drove home I started to think about how my generation is pretty spoiled. I felt pretty selfish, so I thought I just can’t do this when so many people in the world have nothing.” After her mother told her "you could wear a potato sack and you would still look good," Courtney was struck by an idea: “Rather than spend hundreds of dollars on a grad gown, Barich decide she would instead wear a dress fashioned from a burlap sack,” and use that to fundraise for the orphanage’s needs, setting a goal of raising $10,000.

Courtney reached her goal this week but she'll continue to fundraise for the orphanage until her planned return to the Philippines in September to hand over all donations collected. If you'd like to help support her project, you can do so on her website at http://bit.ly/1fK7onF and you can view more photos of her burlap sack dress on her Facebook page at Courtney's Burlap Grad.

Kudos to this kind-hearted Mighty Girl for her generous spirit and creative fundraising to help those in need!

Alert! Scam call!

Alert! Scam call!

Today afternoon around 12.30pm my mom got a call from a malay guy,she quickly pass the call to me as my mom is not good in malay. Here the story goes.

The guy claimed that he is the polis officer from bukit aman and he wanted to talk to my brother's family member. He said my bro is involved in the drugs activity and was caught during their polis operation this morning. I was quite nervous and start questioning him bout my bro car model and where he was caught. He never answer my questions and keep asking for my parents. I told him that my parents are not around and he asked who is the one who answered the phone just now, isn't she your mom? I started suspecting this might be a scam. I told him my mom cant speak malay, anything u can just talk to me but he insisted me to pass the phone to my mom. I ignored him and requested to speak to my bro, he allowed it and ask me to wait for awhile. He claimed that all my bro belongings have been forfeited including the hp which i will not be able to contact him.I waited for about 5mins and a chinese guy (claimed to be my bro) start shouting "woi! help me help me! im so scared...help!!" Of coz now im pretty sure that this is a fraud coz the voice and the way he speaks is totally different from my bro. I shout at him "hey, u r not my bro!" Straight after that he hung up the phone. I tried calling my bro many times but couldn't reach him. I manage to reach him at 1pm, he told me he is safe and not sure why his hp network turned to emergency only during 12-1pm. Wow! Scam has turned to be so professional and common nowadays, they even managed to hacked into your network and change your line!

Please let your parents know especially those parent who is staying alone in the house while children are working. They easily become scammers' target. Beware and educate your parents!

Things you need to teach your Child(ren) at early age

Here is a list of things you need to teach your Child(ren) at early age:

1: Warn your Girl Child Never to sit on anyone's laps no matter the situation including uncles.

2: Avoid Getting Dressed in front of your child once he/she is 2 years old. Learn to excuse them or yourself.

3. Never allow any adult refer to your child as 'my wife' or 'my husband'

4. Whenever your child goes out to play with friends make sure you look for a way to find out what kind of play they do, because young people now sexually abuse themselves.

5. Never force your child to visit any adult he or she is not comfortable with and also be observant if your child becomes too fond of a particular adult.

6. Once a very lively child suddenly becomes withdrawn you may need to patiently ask lots of questions from your child.

7. Carefully educate your grown ups about the right values of sex . If you don't, the society will teach them the wrong values.

8: It is always advisable you go through any new Material like cartoons you just bought for them before they start seeing it themselves.

9. Ensure you activate parental controls on your cable networks and advice your friends especially those your child(ren) visit(s) often.

10. Teach your 3 year olds how to wash their private parts properly and warn them never to allow anyone touch those areas and that
includes you (remember, charity begins from home and with you).

11: Blacklist some materials/associates you think could threaten the sanity of your child (this includes music, movies and even friends and families).

12. Let your child(ren) understand the value of standing out of the
crowd.

13: Once your child complains about a particular person, don't keep quiet about it.

Take up the case and show them you can defend them.

Remember, we are either parents or parents-to-be.

Cara Ringkas Solat Jenazah

Cara Ringkas Solat Jenazah :

1. Angkat Takbir "Allahuakbar" & Niat dalam hati :
++ Sahaja aku solat jenazah terhadap mayat ini, 4 takbir, fardhu kifayah kerana Allah Ta’ala.
++ Jadi makmum? tambah "sebagai makmum kerana Allah Taala"
++ Baca Alfatihah hingga akhir

2. Angkat Takbir Kedua "Allahuakbar"
++ Baca : Allahumma solli a'la Muhammad wa a'la ali Muhammad
++ Pendek pun takpa, paling elok selawat ibrahimiah macam dalam tahiyyat akhir

3. Angkat Takbir Ketiga "Allahuakabar"
++ Baca doa (pendek pun takpa, panjang lagi bagus) contoh dibawah ni :

4. Angkat Takbir Ke Empat "Allahuakbar"
++ "Assalamualaikum warahmatullah " Beri Salam kanan dan kiri
++ Selesai

Semoga ia jadi penghormatan terbaik buat jenazah ..
